MONSTER CONCERT
Monster Concert is a performance event held every other year, in the fall at the University of Wisconsin - River Falls. For the pianists, this is a duet concert, played on multiple grand pianos with up to 12 other pianists performing the same piece. For the instrumentalists/vocalists, this is also an ensemble performance with multiple students performing the same piece.
Monster Concert is a wonderful opportunity for students to learn to play ion ensemble, under the direction of a conductor. Students love the camaraderie of duet work, and they learn many new principle concepts, such as collaborative playing ()playing with someone else - and sharing the bench!), tuning the ear to listen in a different way, and learning to play with a watchful eye to the conductor. This type of format can also help to ease any performance anxiety that students may feel, because the performing space is shared.
