ABOUT WMTA REGIONAL KEYBOARD COMPETITION
The WMTA Regional Competition is a unique opportunity for those students who, because of outstanding achievement and results in their district performances, have advanced to the Regional Competition. This is an event that, as district auditions, offers performance and adjudication opportunity for pianists, instrumentalists and vocalists. While in district auditions there is theory and aural skills testing, in Regional competition this is not evaluated because their district scores in this area have already advanced them.
In this competition, students are grouped in their grade level and there is one winner who, because of their outstanding performance, is chosen as winner from each grade level, with runner-up (at judge’s discretion) and honorable mentions chosen at each grade level, where appropriate.
Immediately following the competition, there is a Winners Recital, where students are celebrated for their achievement in performance. If the Winner is not available to play, the Runner Up is invited to perform.
Students advancing to the Regional Keyboard Competition must compete in the region associated with their home district
Piano Duets are now included in and entered in the Vocal/Instrumental/Ensemble audition track
Students competing in both Regional Keyboard (solo) and VIE (duet) may participate at the venue of the VIE competition
